1985年出生的凯拉奈特莉有个大她四岁的哥哥,父亲威尔奈特莉(Will Knightley)也是个英国演员,母亲莎曼麦克唐纳(Sharman Macdonald)是个演员兼剧作家,也是副导演陈奈特。
在凯拉十一岁时,她的父母就将她引荐给经纪公司,而拍摄她的第一部电影《A Village Affair》陈奈特。
在2003年暑期档奇幻大片《加勒比海盗》中陈奈特，她和著名影星尊尼德普和新晋小生奥兰多搭档，不但影片票房大收，更令她在今夏星光大闪，获多位名导垂青，可谓是上位成功！
